Wild About Flowers

CCMC366Woo hoo!  it’s Thursday again and we have another FABULOUS challenge for you for the Create with Connie and Mary Thursday Challenge.

This week we have a cool color challenge for you – Perfect Plum, Mint Macaron, and Sahara Sand and since I’m on a Wild About Flowers ‘kick’ lately, I thought this color combo would be PERFECT for it!

Here’s the details…

  • Mint Macaron – 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 folded
  • Neutrals dsp – Sahara Sand diagonal print – 1 1/2 x 4 1/4, add to card front.
  • Whisper White – 3 x 2 3/4 and 3 x 3/4.  On the larger piece, stamp stem using Mint Macaron, flowers using Perfect Plum, and greeting using Sahara Sand.  Round bottom right corner and add to card front using dimensionals.  Round bottom left corner of narrow piece and add using dimensionals.
  • Tie Whisper White Bakers Twine in Sahara Sand and Perfect Plum buttons and add to card front.

Tour de Freaks July Hop

freakwelcome2013Welcome to the July Tour de Freaks Blog Hop!  Although we usually have our hop on the 20th of the month, since many of our participants were in Salt Lake City enjoying the Stampin’ Up! convention so we delayed out hop just a little bit!

But we are here now and ready to share our ideas with you!  This month is a ‘free for all’ so you’ll be getting a little bit of this an a little bit of that!

If you are going forward through the hop, you arrived here from Melissa Davies Rubberfunatics blog!  What GREAT projects!

I am just absolutely wild about the Wild about Flowers set so I decided to use it for my projects.  I have a cute little card and matching mini gift bag for you!

CFJUL15-1I remember seeing a very cool card made by our very own, very talented Wendy Weixler using some ‘frames’ as the background so I used that idea as a ‘theme’ for my cards.

Here’s the details…

  • Whisper White – 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 folded
  • Whisper White – 3 5/8 x 3 5/8, run through the Butterflies Embossing Folder and add using dimensionals
  • Cut out frames from Watermelon Wonder and Basic Black…I layered I think 5 different square framelits so I’d have different size frames to play with.  Add frames to card front.
  • Whisper White – 2 1/2 x 2 1/2.  Stamp stem using Mint Macaron, flowers using Watermelon Wonder and greeting using Memento Black.
  • Mint Macaron – 1 x 3 5/8, cut into banner on both sides, add behind stamp panel and add to card front using dimensionals
  • Cut out Itty Bitty Butterfly from Incolor Envelope dsp add to card front.
  • Add some Basic Black Candy Dots to finish it up.

CFJUL15-2So next up I made a cute little gift bag using the Gift Bag Punch board.

Here’s the details…

  • Mint Macaron – 6 x 10 piece, punch and score.  I folded along the score lines then ran through the Butterfly Embossing Folder.  Put together.
  • Add a Watermelon Wonder and Basic Black frame.  I used the smaller ones that I had cut out.
  • Whisper White – 1 5/8 x 2 1/8.  Stamp stem using Mint Macaron, flowers using Watermelon Wonder and greeting using Memento Black.
  • Incolor Envelope dsp – Watermelon Wonder piece – 3/4 x 2 3/4, cut into banner on both ends, add behind stamp panel and add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Watermelon Wonder – punch out Itty Bitty Butterfly, add Basic Black Candy Dot and add to stamp panel.
  • Tie top of bag using Watermelon Wonder 1″ Lace Ribbon.

Here’s the two projects together…

Thanks

ThanksTHANKS!  Okay…well there is a bit of a story behind this card…sort of a long story so just hang in there with me.  Have you ever bought something you just HAD to HAVE then well…it just sat there?  Yep…that was me and the Striped Scallop Thinlit.  Okay…maybe I did use it once before.  Anyway, I needed to make a thank you card for a person I work with.  She is the back end administrator for our learning management system and without her things would be a royal MESS!!!  Not many people at my college know who she is or what an important job she has.  I do!  She has pulled me out of more than one mess and I am one of the fortunate people who can call her directly instead of ‘going through the chain of command’.  It’s been an interesting summer and at least 5 messes she has gotten me out of with our new system.  So I want to send her a thank you card.

So I sit down to stamp and NO IDEA what I want to do but I found this sketch from CASE this Sketch and then this FABULOUS color combo from colourq and I just KNEW I could combine them into something COOL for Kathy!  Anyway, I’m staring at the sketch trying to figure out how to create the background and the Striped Scallop Thinlit pops into my mind and all I can say is after that…the card sort of just made itself!  LOL…don’t you LOVE when that happens?  I do!

Here’s the details…

  • Whisper White THICK cardstock – 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 folded
  • Whisper White THICK cardstock – 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, cut out with the Striped Scallop thinlet.  I played with this piece until I figured out what part I wanted to use because I knew I was going to cut some of it off.  Once I did figure this out, I cut off the excess and attached it to my card front.
  • To make the scallops, just use the Striped Scallop Thinlet again in each of the colors.  Instead of the whole sheet you can run through side by side half sheets because the most I used for a color was 8. Add scallops in Calypso Coral, So Saffron (had to substitute this for Apricot Appeal), and Delightful Dijon (a sub for More Mustard).
  • Whisper White – 1 1/4 x 3 3/4.  Stamp greeting in Night of Navy, cut end using the Lots of Labels Framelit, punch 1/8 hole in end, and add Calypso Coral Thick Baker’s Twine.  Fray the edges.
  • Add tag to card front using dimensionals and there you have it!  A wonderful thank you card for a special person who has helped me out of MANY jams I managed to get myself in!  (I just KNOW she CRINGES when she sees my name come up in an email – she KNOWS I have broken the system…AGAIN!)

1 Card – 3 Ways

Now…I am sure this NEVER happens to you…you sit down to make something and you have something very specific in mind and when you are done…well, you sort of took a left at your stampin’ desk!  Today I sat down to make a card for the casology challenge – wings.  When I finished…it looked like this…

dragonfly2

Now don’t get me wrong…LOVE IT!  But it was NOT the card I set out to make!  So I decided to make the one I set out to make and I came up with this…

dragonfly1

So…funny thing about this card…LOVE IT…but STILL not the card I set out to make.  Well…you know what they say…3rd time’s the charm and here’s my third card…

dragonfly3Now we’re talking…THIS is the card I had intended to make when I started out this morning!  Really all the components are pretty much the same…

  • Base card (either Perfect Plum or Whisper White) – 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 folded
  • Layer (either Perfect Plum or Whisper White) – 3 7/8 x 3 7/8.  Top two run completely through the Elegant Dots Embossing Folder, last one only the top 2/3.  Add using dimensionals.
  • Strips – first one Silver glimmer – 5/8 x 3 7/8 an 3/8 x 3 7/8, second one Mint Macaron – two strips 1/4 x 3 7/8, and third one 1/4 x 3 7/8.
  • Cut two different sized Lots of Labels from Whisper White, stamp splatter in Mint Macaron and greeting in Night of Navy, later using dimensionals and add using dimensionals.
  • Stamp dragonfly using Perfect Plum on Whisper White, cut out and add to card fronts.
  • For third card, add some Basic Rhinestones to finish off.

So…which one is YOUR favorite???

And speaking of favorites…we have just released Create with Connie and Mary July 2015 Mini Session – 5 FABULOUS projects.  It’s a PERFECT time to join!

Irresistible!

Summer15HopWelcome

Welcome everyone to the Create with Connie and Mary Saturday Design Team Blog Hop where the FABULOUS designers pick a theme and we each off a project based on that theme.  This week our theme is RESIST – either the resist technique or the Color Me Irresistible dsp!

Okay…before I share my cards I have to admit I completely and totally lost track of what day it was so at 10 pm on Friday evening I’m frantically making my card.  I’ve been SOOOO busy with school I simply lost a day.  But the good news is that I have finished up the computer work on TWO of my 5 classes I have to do (and I’m helping a friend with hers so that is 6).  They take so much time and concentration that once I start one thing…I have to work it through until the end.

So here it was 10 pm last night and I realized I NEED A CARD – OH NO!!!  Well I ended up making two because I just couldn’t figure out what to do!  (Made toooo many decisions working on my courses – LOL!!!)

So…card 1…

Resist 1Okay…this turn out sort of fun!  I cut the dsp into large chevrons, added the ink and created my card.  Here’s the details

  • Daffodil Delight – 4 1/4 x 11 folded
  • Whisper White – 3 7/8 x 5 1/8, layer onto Basic Black 4 x 5 1/4 and add to card base.
  • Color Me Irresistible – cut three chevrons – 3 1/2 wide – one is 1 1/4, one is 3/4 and the last is 3/8.  Color thickest using Calypso Coral, middle with Daffodil Delight and thinnest with Bermuda Bay.  Add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Stamp balloon 3 times using Memento Black on Whisper White and then the banner on Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight and Bermuda Bay, cut out, layer and add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Color some Perfect White accents using black sharpie and add to card front to finish off.

So…then I wasn’t sure if I liked that so I made a second card…

Resist 2When making a card I don’t like using a lot of different sets on it (an this uses three) but it is a fun card too.  Here’s the details…

  • Pumpkin Pie – 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 folded
  • Color Me Irresistible – 1 1/2 x 5 1/2, stamp larger splatter in Pumpkin Pie, smaller one in Real Red and very small splatter in Memento Black.  Add to card front.
  • Pumpkin Pie – 3 1/4  5 1/2, stamp greeting using Memento Black, add strip of Basic Black 1/2 x 5 1/2 behind it and add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Stamp dragonfly on Whisper White in Real Red and Memento Black, cut out and add to card front.
  • Add Perfect White Accents.

So…that’s my two cards

I Think You’re Great

CCMC365Boy…time sure does FLY by and I can’t believe it is already Thursday and time for another Create with Connie and Mary Thursday challenge.  This week we have a fun, and simple, sketch for you.

You know the funny thing about this sketch is that pretty much everyone on the design team followed it pretty closely using either the oval or the circle.  Meanwhile I (who actually designed this sketch) didn’t!  Funny how that works out sometimes!

Here’s the details –

  • Bermuda Bay – 4 1/4 x 11 folded
  • Bermuda Bay – 3 3/4 x 5, run through the Boho Chic Embossing folder and add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Gold Glimmer – 1/8 x 3 3/4, add to card front
  • Boho dsp – 1 3/4 x 3 1/2, cut in to a banner and add using dimensionals
  • Gold Glimmer – cut out 3rd to smallest star and add to card front using dimensionals.
  • Stamp greeting on Very Vanilla using Blackberry Bliss, cut out and add using dimensionals.

Yep…a VERY quick and easy card…my favorite kind!
