Beate’s Friday Sketch Challenge
Okay...that said every Friday she posts a sketch and challenges people to make a card using it. My Autumn Leaf one that I posted a couple days ago is from one of those. So I sit down Saturday night (LATE) and start working on this. I had decided to use Ginormous Flowers and the Cutie Pie paper. Just LOVE that Cutie Pie paper! So I make this card and honestly, at 11:30 at night it looks pretty good to me. Then I get up the next morning (today) and say "What the HECK was I thinking?????" Although there are some things about it I like it just really doesn't work all that well. It's too busy and too light on the left hand side for the most part. So I was going to sit down and rework it and hide this one under a stack of papers but then decided to share it because many times people think I only create nice cards...well...I usually only SHOW the nice ones I make.
So now it is getting on to Sunday afternoon and I'm doing the laundry and I decide I REALLY need to redo this card. My first issue was the colors and how busy the panel on the left turned out. I decided to go back to the color combo I've been playing with lately (River Rock, Bordering Blue, Blue Bayou, Old Olive and Basic Black) and see what happened. Now both of these cards are 5 1/4 x 5 1/4. To get the large circle I use two sizes of Coluzzle on the outer most ring. To get the 'scallop' look on this card I punched out 3/4" circles and taped behind the Old Olive circle. It is REALLY difficult to see but the light blue 'flowers' is actually a piece of chipboard from the On Board Blossoms and Basics. I used Bordering Blue craft ink to color them. It really gives the card alot of 'dimension' in real life. The Ginormous flowers are cut out and then dimensionals are used behind them. The base of this card is the River Rock textured cardstock (only comes in 12x12 size) but it makes a really beautiful base for this card.
So you see, I really do make cards I don't like! Which do you like? I just couldn't leave this wonderful sketch alone so HAD to go and try again. I absolutely LOVE the new 5/8" grosgrain ribbon. If you haven't used it yet, you MUST! It is a delight to work with!
So long for today! Hope you all have a happy Labor Day! I hope to do some more stamping to share with you. Then on Tuesday it's BACK TO SCHOOL for me!
Happy Stampin'!
