Apothecary Art
WOW…it’s time for the first SUO challenge of the new year! And since it is a new year, the challenge is to try a new technique! Oh fun…I love new techniques! This is one of two posts for today…make sure you check out my Candy Conversations card too!
One of the members of the SUO Challenge Design Team is Karen Barber…she just is sooooooo extremely talented and every card is a true work of art! Karen is known for her incredible watercoloring…something I am just lacking the skills in. She did a tutorial on Marker Layering and I decided I wanted to try that for my new technique! I have to admit…not near as difficult as I thought it would be for a coloring challenged person like me!
Now honestly I think this turned out pretty cool! The base of the card is Blushing Bride. I took a piece of the Twitterpated Blushing Bride dsp and added to the card front. Next I took a piece of Blushing Bride, ran it through the Finial Press Embossing Folder, added some of the Blushing Bride Pleated ribbon behind it then to the card front. I stamped the image Apothecary Art image using StazOn Jet Black on Very Vanilla two times and cut out one using the Label Framelit. Then using Karen’s tutorial I colored in the image…WOW…AMAZING!!! The markers I used were Pink Pirouette, Blushing Bride, Regal Rose, Melon Mambo, Certainly Celery, Lucky Limeade, Old Olive, and Sahara Sand. Next I cut the banner out of the second stamped image, colored the top and bottom using the Regal Rose marker, stamped the greeting using Rose Red, and added a ‘bow’ (click here for my tutorial) from pear Pizzazz Seam Binding and an Everyday Enchantment brad. I added the banner to the image using dimensionals and then the image to the card front using dimensionals.
I did really enjoy doing this technique and know that I’ll be using it again! So I hope for the new year you try a new technique and share it with us at the SUO Challenge site!
Until next time…HAPPY STAMPIN’!

The coloring is stunning, Mary! You can no longer say you lack coloring skills, lol. And I’m starting to kick myself for not ordering that stamp set, ‘cause I love to color!
